Asia Safe Abortion Partnership Brief Progress Report

The Asia Safe Abortion Partnership (ASAP) was formed in March 2008 after a meeting in Kuala Lumpur , attended by 37 participants from 13 countries.

The group decided upon the name, goal, objectives and workplan. They also identified the Steering Committee members and the coordinator.

Over the last 3 months a webgroup has been set up, which provides the members with regular updates on relevant topics. A country profile template has been developed which is being completed by all the member countries for uploading on the website ( to be finalized). The group has also initiated a multi- country research study, and has plans for an Advocacy Capacity Building workshop.

ASAP has been in touch with the teams carrying out the FIGO-IPPF Global Unsafe Abortion Study and hopes to be more closely involved in the future.

The Steering Committee and Coordinator have agreed upon a budget plan for July-Dec 2008 and are preparing a funding proposal for 2009-2010.
