Ipas recently produced two new publications designed for Latina women and health-care providers or health educators who work with Latinas. Both are printed in Spanish and English.
Our Voices, Our Health: Latinas Share Their Stories
This booklet interweaves personal stories with service-delivery recommendations and background information to provide an intimate glimpse into the specific reproductive health-care needs and challenges of Latina immigrants. Broken down into four sections: Planning Our Families, Making Difficult Decisions — Abortion, Coping with Depression and Isolation, and Confronting Violence in Our Homes, Our Voices, Our Health is designed to promote the implementation of culturally sensitive programs that ensure Latinas receive the highest standard of health care and are enabled to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights, including the right to information and education, the right to health care and health protection, the right to decide whether or when to have children and the means and information to make that decision.
Unplanned Pregnancy? Get Informed! Know Your Rights.
This brochure provides information to help women facing an unplanned pregnancy explore their options and access necessary resources and services. Each year, more than 40 percent of Latinas in North Carolina will confront an unplanned pregnancy, and Get Informed explores their various options, including abortion, adoption and motherhood, and explains how to establish whether they are pregnant and how to find local support services. Get Informed also gives women information about family planning and emergency contraception.
Ipas continues to work with local organizations in North Carolina, such as El Pueblo, to provide information about reproductive health to Latinas, especially Latina youth.
