Strategies to facilitate the availability of postabortion care services.
A host of studies have established that misoprostol is an effective and acceptable treatment for incomplete abortion. Treatment of incomplete abortion with misoprostol is an important addition to current post-abortion care services since its low cost and reduced need for manpower could help conserve scarce resources. Additionally, the introduction of misoprostol may help bridge the gap between the lack or failure of family planning and the potential need for PAC. Despite existing evidence and demonstrated experience, introduction of misoprostol treatment as a stand-alone service or integration into existing PAC or family planning services has been slow. This interactive session will focus on exploring barriers and discussing effective strategies that can potentially facilitate the introduction of misoprostol for PAC services.
