29.06.2009 World YWCA Fundraising Co-ordinator Lynn Sorrentino attended the UNDPA/UNFPA/WHO World Bank Special Programme of Research, Development and Research Training in Human Reproduction (HRP): Meeting of the Policy and Coordination Committee (PCC) on June 18-19, 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland.
Hosted by the Department of Reproductive Health and Research (RHR), the main instrument within the United Nations system for research in sexual and reproductive health, the purpose of the annual PCC meeting was to review progress made by HRP during the year, to discuss plans for the future and to decide on policy and strategy issues.
The theme of the PCC meeting was “Improving sexual and reproductive health through research and research training.” Sorrentino said the meeting was a great opportunity to observe the latest research and cross cutting issues on sexual and reproductive health and rights.
“Early in 2009, the World YWCA convened a consultation to strengthen the global strategy on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and HIV and AIDS including condom programming, “ explains Sorrentino. “Although the World YWCA is not a member of the PCC Committee, it was important to attend due to our programme focus on women's SRHR.”
